Pianofest Performers win MTV game show
Pianofest in the Hamptons is known for featuring fantastic classical pianists in concert, and now it can claim to feature two MTV stars as well. Greg Anderson and Elizabeth Roe, both longtime Pianofest performers, appeared last month on MTV’s Total Request Live as contestants in a Harry Potter game show. Anderson commented, “It was the last place I’d expect to find myself – in a studio above Times Square, side-by-side with movie stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, and on millions of television sets around America. It was fun.”
Anderson and Roe perform regularly together at the piano, but for the show, they were asked to act as competitors in trivia and physical challenges. After several elimination rounds, Anderson and Roe were the remaining two finalists. “It was tough to pretend not to know Greg,” said Roe, “but I’ll admit it was easier to jump around in a pool of Styrofoam peanuts with someone I knew!” Anderson went on to win an all-expense paid trip to London and he was allowed to take Roe as his guest.
The two spent five days in London where they attended the premiere of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, went to a Shakespeare play at the National Theatre, and toured London and Oxford. Roe stated, “As an Anglophile, it was a thrill to visit the home of Handel, the Beatles, and Harry Potter.” Anderson was also featured on the United Kingdom’s edition of MTV’s Total Request Live. “This time I was competing against four contestants from around the world, but the contest was easier because it only involved guessing,” said Anderson. His guessing won him an internship on the next Harry Potter movie. “I don’t know how this all happened. It really feels like magic!”
Anderson and Roe will perform together on the Pianofest concerts in early July. Pianofest concerts are offered every Monday at 4 p.m., June 28 through August 12 in the Avram Theater at Southampton College. Tickets are $10 at the door, or free for students; for more information, call 329-9115. Anderson and Roe will also be featured on the Southampton Concert Series at the Cultural Center next season.
