Newspaper Reviews

La Nueva Espana, regarding Greg's Concerto Performance:

Greg Anderson brought the audience to its feet with shouts of "bravo, bravo!" He left this reviewer at loss for words.

Edmond Life & Leisure, regarding a concert in which Greg replaced Desirae Brown of The 5 Browns (2008):

Once he was on stage Anderson quickly became the star of the concert. His modest charm, virtuoso performances and the strength of his arrangements assured his immediate acceptance and success with the audience. As the old saying goes, if you must have a replacement make sure that replacement is equal to or better than yourself.

...

The remainder of the evening was greatly enhanced by Greg Anderson's astounding performance of his adaptation "Danse Macabre: Hootenanny for Five Pianos," accompanied by the Browns. In this work as well as in his quick and manly pounce onto the piano keys during his arrangement of Gustav Holst's "The Planets," Anderson performed with remarkable astuteness: He is indeed a performer par excellence, and the Browns should keep him on their programs permanently.

Daily O'Collegian, regarding Greg's Solo Performance (2008):

His pieces were so lively that the audience burst out into laughter.

The ThirdCoast Digest (Milwaukee, WI), regarding the Anderson & Roe Piano Duo (2009):

To say the anniversary concert actually mesmerized the audience understates the effect. The concert, a sensuous blend of two keyboards and souls completely in sync, provided an unforgettable emotion similar to star-crossed lovers in Shakespeare’s sonnets who end up fulfilling a blissful destiny.

... the intense synchronization of genius.

Northwest Reverb (James Bash), regarding the Anderson & Roe Piano Duo (2009):

[Anderson & Roe] gave an electrifying performance that swept the audience into a cheering mass of humanity, making a strong case that playing piano is the most fun thing that two people could ever do together.

The Cyprus Mail, regarding the Anderson & Roe Piano Duo (2009):

Electrifying and riviting! ...When the concert goes too quickly, it's a further sign that the concert was excellent, well-paced, and most enjoyable.

Schenectady Daily Gazette, regarding Greg's "Danse Macabre: Hootenanny for 5 Pianos" (2008):

A knockout!

The Star-Telegram, regarding the Anderson & Roe Piano Duo (2008):

Greg Anderson and Elizabeth Joy Roe captured that spirit of camaraderie while playing at the highest level of artistry. Phrasings tapered across the instruments; harmonies blended sumptuously; articulations were perfectly matched in weight and color.
...
Their playing connected viscerally with the crowd.
...
The pair’s accounting of Strauss’ The Blue Danube waltz concluded the show with a fun, wild romp, featuring acrobatic arm entanglements and burry-fast hand-crossings. It was the piano-playing version of ice dancing.

South Florida Sun-Sentinel (2008):

Greg Anderson's "Fantasia on Dives and Lazarus," a set of variations on an English folk tune, was grandly rhapsodic yet crafted with intellectual integrity. The Browns aced the bracing counterpoint with clarity and breezy showmanship.

The Ledger, regarding the Anderson & Roe Piano Duo (2007):

Genuinely sensuous... [The Anderson & Roe Piano Duo] can only be described as lovemaking on a piano keyboard.

The Washington Post:

Perfect!

The Southampton Press, regarding Greg's Libertango transcription:

Riveting ...extremely imaginative!

The Southampton Press, regarding Greg's "A New Account of the Blue Danube Waltzes":

a pièce de résistance ... at once a small satire on and an act of homage to the great Viennese master of the frivolous and the joyous. ... It has an elegance and a romance that is of another time. The seduction paid off

...

Their hand movements and the intertwining of arms, and it seemed at times of fingers, was elaborately and brilliantly choreographed. There were times when their hands seemed magically to occupy the same space, though they were playing different notes. The entire process was a small ballet of the hands, as wonderful to watch as to hear.

The Southampton Press, regarding the Anderson & Roe Piano Duo

One admired throughout their energy, their precision, and their unalloyed pleasure in making music. ...Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers transposed from the dance floor to the keyboard.

...fiery and passionate ...in a class by itself.

...

It is often said that young musicians today have razor-sharp technique, but they lack individuality. This cannot be said of these two young performers. The technique is beyond question, but they have personalities, both musical and personal that are completely distinctive and a joy to discover.

Wow! Im not an authority or anything, but Im so impressed with your playing. I can't believe I haven't heard of you before. I feel like the tones that you produce, your sense of timing, feeling, and color are all very individual and spot on. I hope I hear more from you.

Adar:

Hey Greg, You came to play in Edmond to replace the oldest Brown sibling and although we missed her, it was awesome to meet and speak with you. You're an incredibly talented arranger and extremely creative. What you did with "The Swan" and the interpretation you had on "The Serpent's Kiss" were breath taking. Thank you for re-lighting my desire to work hard to give that type of performance, simply by your example of genuine passion for music.

Shinye Kim:

I do want you to know that I am filled with gratitude for the joy Greg's music has given me. It was such a nice surprise to discover the concert I attended several months ago. I play his CD's a lot in the car -- they transport my mind to memories of a beautiful concert in a beautiful church on a sunny day. Bliss!

Michel Solis, Lawyer, Montreal, Canada:

Thanks a lot, a whole lot for the "devil's staircase" video. I am so glad to read your ideas about classical music. At 45, I am among the youngest in the hall when I go and see The Montreal Symphony Orchestra with Kent Nagano, and that's just too bad! There is just so much to live and feel though classical music. Everyone would be able to find something he or she likes if he or she would just take the time to listen. I love classical music because what one given piece makes me think about is different from what another person will think, listening to the same piece. But I think these days some people need to be told what to think when listening to classical music, as you have done in the Devil's Staircase video. Congratulations! When are you coming to Montreal?

ander706:
